Our friend Ruth got married last week, and we participated in a wedding to remember.
With a taste of American culture, and a whole lotta' Kenyan culture as well. It was amazing.
And guess who got to be the ring bearer?
The whole fam was involved in some way or another, like holding veils,
watching children, etc.
Helping bridesmaids, all the fun details that go into a wedding day.
The little man was a sight to see in his mini tux.
It was a noon wedding, so at about 11:30 the groom's family came to welcome the bride into their circle with singing, dancing, chanting and merry-making. It was a sight to see in the tiny cul de sac of my in laws neighborhood.
All the neighbors came out for a view.
The bride's family gathered in the foyer to answer back with song and prayer.
We couldn't get enough.
Soon, someone put an end to the singing and the bride was ready to be given away by her parents.
It was a really touching a very emotional tradition to see.
Someone was having a ball through it all. Such a good little ring bearer!
We headed to the church and the ceremony began. We were asked to walk down the aisle with the bride's family! What an honor.
And Raughley did such a great job walking down the aisle!
Afterwards, at the reception (which goes on all day and night- we could only stay about an hour) we enjoyed traditional African food, including goat, rice, some kind of mash made out of peas and corn, and special bread. All this was made by the hands of the ladies in the family. So neat!
Someone kicked back a little after it was all said and done. I think he deserved it!
Congrats to Ruth and Lee! Thank you for including us in your special day!
