Slide

Here's a short one of Raughley going down the slide at the tot lot. He was much more interested in banging his hands on the metal, but seemed to have fun when I helped him slide down.

Pic of the day

This is what I now see when I look in my rear view mirror.... It's so nice to have him finally turned around to face forward!

A good laugh

My friend Cristin posted about this blog she read, and after spending my morning coffee time reading it, I had sufficiently laughed my necessary quota of laughs for the day- make that the whole week.  So weird, but so funny.  Don't go if you don't like cuss words, but if you can handle a little profanity, it's worth a visit.

Inside, Outside, Nekid Side!

Okay that makes no sense whatsoever, but the other day R pretty much spent the entire day in his "ludies" or naked time- in nothing but a daiper.  (BTW ludie is one of the Wise's terms for Naked that I have picked up on- it comes from the song they sing- "ludie ludie ludie- I see your tootie" and I have no idea how to correctly spell ludie either, so bear with me).
So R man played in his new baby pool in the back yard for about an hour- and I thought the water was too cold, but apparently he didnt bc he just jumped right it and splashed like there was no tomorrow.  He sure thought he was hilarious too.
Well as you know with a one year old, the tides can turn in a split second, and one minute your sweetness is laughing and splish splashing, and then they are mad as a hornet and screaming so loud that you're sure the neighbors think you are torturing them.  So we got inside as fast as we could once Mr. Hyde reared his head, and once dry and calm, had some chair time and "GASP" watched Baby Einstein "My first signs" together.  I know we are terrible parents allowing our child to watch tv at this age, but hey, he's picked up on Milk, More and occasionaly All Done, plus it gives me approximately 18 minutes of me time to throw a load in the laundry or get dinner started.  And doesn't he look like such a little funny guy in his big boy chair?

Besties

Or in guy terms, buds.  They seem to pick up on the fact that we are forcing them to be friends... and loving the idea!
"I love you man!"
Don't you wish adult men were this affectionate?
Before this hallmark moment these two little messes went to Pablo's with Liz, David and Evie, but we were too busy warding off flying chips and salsa to take pics.  I did crack up when Liz told me that David talks about "baby Raughley" and "baby Wyatt" at home from time to time- we're so glad R will have a good older friend to show him the ropes!

It's tough being 1 year old...

Today has been a tough day.  Little man is teething... I read somewhere that if adults had to go through the pain of teething we couldn't handle it without major pain killers.  Poor little guys- no wonder you don't remember being so young.  Yesterday I noticed R was unusually fussy, and nothing would calm him down.  I rubbed some orajel on his gums and felt something really hard- a tooth!  well, this morning I felt a little farther- it was like a tooth farm in there- there must be at least 4!!!  No wonder he's been so clingy and fussy!  Nothing would calm the little guy down except for laying his head on my shoulder and having me walk around- not stand still- and definitely not sit down.  Well I could have sat all day, but walking was wearing me out, so I tried- out of desperation some other options, and the one thing that worked was his toothbrush!  What the teething ring, ice cube, silver rattle could not do, the toothbrush did- soothed his sore hurting gums (well that and some infant tylenol). This toothbrush did not leave his side all day long, as you can see...

Sad and hurting

And better now that he has his toothbrush!
See the runny nose, wet eyes and sad face.

It even followed him into the tub,

But if it made him happy, I didn't care.

And boy did his mood change.  I set him out of the tub, and before I could reach for the towel, he was RUNNING down the hall, toothbrush in hand, laughing.  If only I could show you the full picture (this one is cropped) of his naked little body toddling away from me as fast as his chubby little legs could carry him.  Nothing could have made me happier than to hear that laugh.

A-Day

The day before little man's 1 year birthday party, mom and dad and I went to T-town for a little A-day action.  The most exciting part of the day was certainly Raughley taking over the stage at the DKE house dancing to the two man band.  They loved him- enough to play "The wheels on the bus" for him.  He was such a ham! I didn't know he had it in him- must take after his mama :)

A birthday in the 100 Acre Wood!

Someone had a one year old birthday party!
Everyone was there.
Smiling faces all around,
And no one had a care!
We blew bubbles
played with trains
hugged grandmothers
and ate cake.
Then took pics with baby friends-
What a happy family we make!

Doctor Day!

Today was the big one year check-up.  We have officially graduated to whole milk!  Yay for not having to buy formula for a loooooooooooong time!  R-man is 19 1/2 pounds, 30 1/2 inches, and got two boops today and barely cried!  (HEP A and Chicken pox)  We got some advice for time outs and getting rid of bottles, as well as the okay to eat eggs, fish, and even peanut butter!  What a big boy!

Last night we went walking on the golf course while daddy played a little bit.
And have graduated to a big boy carseat!!!!!! He loves facing forward and seeing the wide world from a whole new viewpoint!

Birthday Boy!

Well, Raughley's birthday dinner was a 99.9% success.
We started the night with a little outdoor entertainment
a little lawn mowing
chit chatting
and general enjoyment of the afternoon sun.
We did a little present opening
and boy oh boy was that fun!
yay for being one!
Then came the cake- mommy made this one (it's pooh bear by the way in case you can't tell from my excellent baking skills)
and all was going well until
The fire got too close to the little man's face- he HATED the candle!!!!!!!!  This was so traumatic for him that only being picked up by mommy made it better.
SO SAD!
Bryant said he would eat it though, and after that Raughley was ready to enjoy
and did he ever!
Chow down kiddo!
Here's how he ended the night- being one is so tiring!!!

Many Happy Returns of the Day!

pooh-lumpy-tigger-piglet-roo-birthday-party.jpg

"Where was I going? Ah, yes, Eeyore." He got up slowly. And then, suddenly, he remembered. He had eaten Eeyore's birthday present!

"Bother!" said Pooh. "What shall I do? I must give him something."

For a little while he couldn't think of anything. Then he thought: "Well, it's a very nice pot, even if there's no honey in it, and if I washed it clean, and got somebody to write 'A Happy Birthday' on it, Eeyore could keep things in it, which might be Useful."

My Aunt Bee wrote this on my facebook wall this morning, and I just love this passage from Winnie the Pooh.  He is such a little mess of a pooh bear, and reminds me of my little mess who is already walking, talking (baby babble- no words) and golfing.  Eating everything in sight (including dirt), stacking, pushing his shopping cart around, opening drawers and cabinets, exploring, climbing, hugging and laughing and bringing joy to everyone around him.  I can't believe this time last year we were in the hospital bringing him into the world.  Time really flies when you're having fun!

We love you little sweet boy- Happy First Birthday to you!!!!

Social Butterfly

Raughley has been a busy boy lately, buzzing around from one social engagement to another.

First we had a date with Caroline and Wyatt, (along with their mommies, Katie and Kristin, and Sammye and Colleen, friends from BWF)
There's nothing like a marg after work to help you socialize with an 11 month old!
R was in love with Sammye from the start
Soon after we went to BCC for a celebratory dinner for Uncle William (to congratulate him on his new job!)  While there, the little girl at the table next to us babysat R while we ate.  She was in charge too, because when Frances Ellen tried to pick him up she told her in her most adult voice "I've got it"  - too funny!
We've spent time hanging out in the yard, learning how to golf...
Don't know what this face is about- I guess he's taking after his mom, a regular "sara bernhart"
Finally, he got to attend Emily and Adam's baby shower!
we had quite a spread, compliments of Em's sweet friends,
and plenty of presents to go around!
The mommy and daddy to be!
fun with Hudson (the little boy in front) Raughls was OBSESSED with following him around the yard and laughing at everything he did, it was so cute to see him looking up to someone.
The other hostesses!
It was a couples shower, so the boys got a small taste of what we girls experience at these events
My cute friends!
